Yeah the gearbox is a little short for a 900. I personally went with a 16/43 setup with a 520 pitch chain and it seems to have worked out very well. I don't know if I would go up to 17 though. The 16/43 lets me carry a gear a bit longer and has cut down on the gear changes in the twisties. It takes a little getting used to but once you ride it for a while it becomes the norm. I came from an RSV4 which had supper tall gearing compared to the Z, but now I have ridden for a while its all good.

Jasper : Welcome to the forum. Whilst you are running in and before you change the gearing, it would be nice if you could note down some revs per mph in the gears, then do it again after you change the sprockets. For example, from memory, I think that 6th gear at 4000 rpm achieves around 62mph, and so on. It will provide an interesting comparison.
You will love the bike. It is poised, stable, refined and quick. It can be made into a superb machine by investing in a few up-grades. This forum is very helpful.
Who in their right mind would design a vehicle that falls over when it stops?

Hi Ras, you bet I'm looking forward changing the gearing. Clearly its under-geared for normal use especially if you are commuting doing highways/freeways taken its massive linear power into consideration  :003:

Can't wait to fill the matrix and provide you guys with riding comments  :002: :001:

Will post my findings in a new thread under 'modifications' little later this very day.

Take care.
