It'll fit diagonally alright. Stand it up, no sidestand and buy quality tie downs such as Ancra. They cost more but they last a lifetime.
A tarp will beat around in the wind and scuff the paint tho.

Secure the loose ends of your tiedown straps, they'll do the same. Don't ask me how I know.

Well I can now confirm the Z9 fits diagonally, without issue in the back of a 19 Ram short box. Tie down was a little different than straight in but it worked.
