Akrapovic Header and Stock Exhaust
« on: December 29, 2018, 08:51:53 AM »
Hi All few months back i got full system Akrapovic with Shorty Exhaust. Before buying i never thought it will be so loud, that it will grab all the unnecessary attention of COPS.
In my city COPS are very active and particular about loud exhaust , so i am not able to use my bike as a daily driver and only using it on highways that too with a fear of getting caught.

Now i have decided to remove the shorty exhaust and put back stock exhaust on the akra headers so it will not be that loud and wont be that silent also.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has done this before, ?
Does it effect anything on the performance?
Do i need to change to map on PCV.?

For the look I would put the stock headers back on and put a nice slip on!

For the performance aspect I'm not really sure! Iv'e seen some youtube video about what you're looking for!

I would assume that there's less of a need to do any remapping with the stock end can on than with the Akra shorty as that's what the bike originally came with.
If u do put the original end can back on with the Akra headers, can you please post a video of the exhaust sound. I'm thinking of cutting out the bread box and putting in a link pipe and keep the original end can. But i would like to hear what this configuration sounds like first.

I had the same problem as you and ended up with racing headers and original silencer. Noise level is acceptable but the sound is horrible. Performance was ok. A lot of popping by the way.

After 3 weeks i put original headers and akra silencer back again. Bike rides much much smoother than racing headers + stock silencer.

I would prefer stock headers + racing exhaust to racing headers + stock exhaust.

Summary:

Stock headers + stock exhaust:
Low noise
Ugly sound
Ok performance

Stock headers + racing exhaust with dbkiller:
Low noise
Ugly sound
Ok performance

Stock headers + racing exhaust without dbkiller:
Low noise
Ugly sound
Ok performance

Racing headers + stock exhaust:
Perfect noise level
Very ugly sound
Bit of loss of torque in low rpm. Popping

Racing headers + racing exhaust with dbkiller:
Excesive noise level (cops problems)
Amazing sound
Loss of torque in low rpm. Popping

Racing headers + racing exhaust without dbkiller:
Soooooo excesive noise level (cops problems for sure)
Amazing sound
Loss of torque in low rpm. Popping

Racing headers + header dbkiller + racing exhaust with dbkiller:
To be tested soon. Hope to be the definitive set up :)

Hope it helps

The Z header pipe diameter is 51mm. I have already received the dbkiller but not installed yet.

Hi downtown which of the four choices did you go for 1, 2, 3. or 4 left to right. Is your akro can a race can or the Akro performacne can supplied by Kawasaki.
Look forward to your sound bite.
