Polishing windscreen.?
« on: February 24, 2019, 05:08:46 AM »
I gave google about 30 minutes of my time and couldn’t find anybody with answers or even similar questions. Does anybody have any experience polishing ( removing small swirls or, even regular sized scratches ) from smoked windshields.? Does it act as a normal painted surface and will buff/polish out with a DA? I feel that as the winshield is smoked ( impregnated color I believe ) and not painted it may burn the plastic instead.

May have found an alternative to my current windscreen so I just want to clean it up a little for the next guy

Whitening toothpaste is great for small scratches on screens and headlights.  Try it on the back of the screen first.

Unless you plan on using some serious elbow grease a half hearted effort will only make it worse. I never touch the windshield and especially the cluster plastic unless I'm washing the bike. It's soft and once scratched or swirled it's best not to look at it.

I have seen my friend polish his giant Harley windshield but it takes him hours.  :112:

+1 for Plexus. I've used it for my bike and in the past on boats. Great stuff

3m finesse polishing compound.

I have smoothed deep scratches starting at 200g working up to 1500 and 2000 g. Then used finesse with my torqx orbital buffer.  First time was on the windscreen of my 600rr that I low sided.

Novus makes some plastic care products. I've used Novus 1 for cleaning/polishing windscreens, visors, helmets, plastic body parts, and Novus 2 for getting scratches out of windscreens. I've never needed to use the Novus 3, for deeper scratches.
