Z900 Sidestand Turns?
« on: May 13, 2019, 01:05:02 AM »
Has anyone used the sidestand as a balance/pivot point to turn your bike?

It would be a useful trick for me in my driveway, just wondering if the Z900 sidestand would hold up. I haven't tried it yet!

Here's an explanation of the technique: https://www.revzilla.com/common-tread/how-to-turn-your-bike-on-the-sidestand.

Yes it would hold up, no worries at all. The stand is vertical at that point and all the weight on it is vertical, if you get me, it is not going to bend IMO.
Anyway if Lemmy can do it it must be good to go on all bikes.

Lemmy demonstrates it just once. I assume you're going to do it on a daily basis to maneuver it around your driveway.

I would buy a bike dolly.

With some help from a friend is a very usefull maneuver to lift the bike and to check the stock suspension settings, if you dont have any stand of course. :028:

Your driveway isn't big enough to do an easy 3 point turn?  :006:

"Stands that lock positively in place trump the ones that fold up real easily. Bikes with rear grab handles are way easier to perform this maneuver with than bikes with a little strap across the pillion pad".
My stand flips up and down pretty damn easy + the strap on back has been removed, I wouldn't trust it either- wheels on the ground & roll it around takes all of 30 seconds.

At some point the bolt holding the stand on will snap. Probably sooner than later.

Chances are it's already been done to your bike at the dealership. That's how the mechanics and techs move them around.

I agree but to me it just seems like we are asking for something to fail doing that

Done this with every bike Ive owned. Never had anything bend. I also haul street bikes in my truck with the stand down. No problems.
