on: February 12, 2020, 04:21:12 PM
Hi all,

Had an issue at petrol station today. Couldnt open the fuel cap and it bent the key...... in turn couldnt start it and the wife had to rescue me with a spare key.......

Any tips on the fuel cap and also ignition being really stiff????

Thanks!

You you keep it outdoors in the weather? I havent had any issues with my locks. There was a topic recently about ways to lubricate them. Maybe that would help you out?

On another note anyone know where I can get a replacement key cut in the UK or is only via the dealership?

Youll probably have to order the key blank through the dealer, then go and get it cut, then return to the dealer for them to program the transponder chip to the bike.

Maybe it will help to lube it? .. with some power grafit or WD40 dry lube

Did you push down on the cap as you turned the key?
The mechanism needs to be greased and the wafers in the lock need an oiling. The factory uses very little and gasoline is good at washing that stuff out.

Get yourself some silkolene silkopen. Bloody brilliant stuff! I use it on the car door locks, garage door lock, bike ignition, fuel cap, rear seat/cowl key slot, side stand, hinges on just about anything and still the list goes on. Its a graphite spray in a can and honestly, it frees things up better than anything else Ive got including WD40.
