General consensus on the 2020 Z
on: May 04, 2020, 06:46:47 PM
Just curious on how many members have owned an older version Z900 and now have the 2020 and can share some additional feedback on ownership.

Pro's Cons,  ride, power differences etc.  Now that we are in May 2020 there might be some owners that fit this bill........ :084: :084: :084:

Just curious, shopping for 2019 or 2020..... still haven't found and decided.     Thanks for any additional insight. (I know most of the advertised changes)
it's not until you have owned both to really find little things.

Hi, well i didnt ride the 2020 model, but saw it in person (matte black with few bits of red) and really liked the upragde. First of all, in person, the bike looked better than from what i have seen in pitctures and videos. There were few plastic changes and as result, it looks less cheap :) New model has plenty of LED lights, which is superb, nice TFT screen, higher seat as standart. There are many opinions about electronics, but i have plenty extreme experiences with 2017 model, so imho traction control is welcome addition. On top of that, the frame was strenghten and there are few tweaks to suspension (it seems that kawasaki is listening to their customers :) ). Me personally, i would swap my current 2017 Z9, for 2020 model, but, BUT ! There is no quickshifter option and... i borrowed new Ninja 1000 SX for one hour and its done ! This will be my next bike !

This makes sense moving from a Z900 to a Z1000SX is an upgrade. Moving from a Gen 1 Z900 to a Gen 2 is a sideways move.
I can't imagine many people would move to the 2020 unless it was some sort of insurance replacement.
If someone said to me here take a 2020 or take a 2019 and keep the change it would be difficult decision. I suppose it would depend how much change.

Tighten it 'til it strips then back it off half a turn.

If you haven't bought yet, I'd go with the 2020 model. For me the main reason is the strengthened frame and bracket at the lower shock mount. Kawi really messed up there on the first model.  It is a big deal if you plan on keeping the bike long term, and you will. Most of the first gen needed angle brackets added on. Pure hack IMO. Hopefully they did it right on the 2020.

Outside of that I like the TFT dash over the one the 2017-19 Z got. It's the same dash as what is on their lesser bikes.
As far as the LED lighting, that's nice but the incandescent lamps don't bother me.

I'll be keeping my eyes open for the belly pan panels appearing on ebay.  :018:
I don't think those lovely frame covers are going to fit a 2017 though.  :019:

Yep... pretty much settled on the 2020.  There is only the blue one at my dealer,  I want the black/silver/green, hopefully they get one or I have to drive 2.5 hours away.  :028: :028:

I'm a green guy but that blue looks great and blue is usually boring.
