2020 USB / Accessory connector
on: June 09, 2020, 02:03:51 PM
The 2020 Z900 comes with a connector under the seat to plug in an optional USB charger.
You can see it here : https://www.kawasaki.ca/en-ca/shop/accessories/motorcycle/zr900flf/21903/usb-socket-kit

I'd like to connect my own device there. As far as I can tell, the connector should provide 12V when the bike is turned on, which would be perfect for a dash cam or GPS.

I've taken pictures of the connector but I don't recognize it. I'd like to buy the correct female connector and build my own wire.

Dealer installation recommended   :745: If someone cant figure out how to plug that in, how do they figure out how to twist the throttle?!

Is there a cap on that?

There are two sets of connectors, one behind the headlight assembly, and one under the seat.

The underseat connector is new in 2020.
I don't plan on using the headlight assembly connectors yet.

I would use bullet connectors straight into socket I am sure Kawasaki will have an extortionately priced  socket and lead to fit this.I am sure someone else has looked at this and maybe found a compatible socket to connect.
Better to arrive 10 minutes late in this world than to arrive years too early in the next.

Lifting this thread - having the same problem. As stated - this seems to be new on 2020- models. It is not available in the 2017-2019 service manual electrical diagrams, and I believe no 2020 manual is available?

This connector is mentioned in the user manual as a USB socket and provides 12V so I believe it can be used for USB3 quick charge, has anyone managed to get a hold on the OEM socket that fits?

Just next to the starter relay there is a white cable ending in a round female pin, and this provides 5V when the ignition is on, what is that for?  :084:

I ended up buying the matching connector on AliExpress.
It's a Sumitomo, part number is 6187-2171.
Something like this : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33036040070.html
Both parts of the connector are already there, but they inserted rubber plug to seal it. You only need the metal pins and rubber seals.

Then I bought a 12v to USB converter, like this one:
https://www.amazon.ca//dp/B081NCXB2M/

Then it's just a matter of disconnecting the dummy plug from the motorcycle, attaching the connector the the converter and plugging it back in.

I made mine last summer and it's working fine for charging my cellphone and Sena communicator.

Hello, you wouldn't have any images of that connector plugged into the Kawasaki's plug would you?   Is it an exact match (does it lock in place or just "fit" well enough?)   The OEM parts for these sockets are STUPID expensive - $100 for each!  If I had the proper plug I could use my own wired and charger for much less.
