I would guess that like my recent bikes most have been weekend warrior toys and is not everyday transport also with family life work and the good old English weather getting in the  way doesn't help. Over the last 44 years of bike ownership I have clocked up over 200,000 miles  longest tour around Europe about 8000m but last 3 years only about 5000m total.
Better to arrive 10 minutes late in this world than to arrive years too early in the next.

Most of my mileage is commuting. I do go out for fun, but having a young family means that spare time is limited. I still ride through our wonderful British winters :004: but no pleasure miles at that time of year. Going out in freezing temperatures with high wind, rain, ice etc. isnt my idea of fun.

I used to commute every day whatever the weather several years ago, but for the last few years I have a job only 1 mile from home so normally cycle in.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!

Heavenly! My old job was just round the corner from my house and had great hours but the current job came along and I couldnt turn the wage increase down.

And, some of us are fortunate to have more than one bike which can make the Z look low. Since 2012, I've logged just under 45,000 miles on 3 bikes including one riding season shot with a broken foot in a boot cast for the warmest 4 months of the year, and one summer spent fixing a house I bought (mold, entire basement redo, 80% interior paint). Then the darn COVID wiped out 45 miles of daily commuting on the back roads this year, plus those long rides home (sorry honey, got tied up at work a bit), so at least 2000 miles, maybe 3000 since we had a pretty dry summer. Never enough time to get all the miles in we really want.
