HELP abs light ON
on: April 19, 2021, 03:26:16 PM
Hi, I am from Argentina. I have a 2018 Z900 ABS version. A few months ago the abs light was suddenly on. I went to an official kawasaki service and we connected it to the computer, the result was that it did not recognize the front wheel speed sensor. We changed it and it worked only on the first stop, then the light came on again. The computer keeps saying there is no front speed sensor. Anyone else has experienced the same issue? Any clues on the possible solution? Can someone tell me where the ABS ECU is to check the connection?

Thank you in advance!
Leo

Check the front wheel ABS rotor that is mounted to actual wheel. It's the round metal disc that has a bunch of small square holes.

I had a tire shop damage mine and it caused a similar issue. In order to properly inspect it, it must be removed and placed on a flat surface.

This rotor is very thin and supposedly enough of a problem that Kawasaki has redesigned the part to avoid it getting easily damaged. Picture below shows the original vs. the new updated part.

I just checked, it has a difference of about 1.5 mm do you think that this is the problem?

As I suspected, its a bad ABS rotor. You literally will not be able to straighten that out. I've tried with a much cleaner example.

The redesigned Kawasaki part has a radius and greatly strengthens it making it far less fragile. Blows my mind the Kawasaki dealer changed the wrong part..

I think retail was $70...but I didn't pay anything since the guy that machine mounted tire screwed it up.

If you change it, you need to order the 3 allen screws as they will likely self destruct on removal. I bought some really high end 12.9's (they are 10.9 stock)
