Uk tyre recommendation…..
on: July 28, 2021, 03:11:29 PM
Only had my 2019 for two weeks, already noticing the stock Dunlop’s are not great

What recommendations have the uk riders got ? I’m in Devon at the moment, so lots of fast windy roads
Will be occasionally riding wet ……….very occasionally

Thanks

I’ll watch for recommendations as I’m picking mine up in a week or so, and will only run the bike in on the stock rubber.

I’m going to try Metzelers as I had them on my Versys and they were a world apart compared to the BT31’s it came with. I put on right angled Warrior 11.3mm valves from Demon Tweaks at the same time. Made it way easier to use a compressor hose.

I always rated Avon tyres years ago on my ZX6 until I did only track days on it, then used Dunlops from a race team rich enough to swap them after qualifying, so just scrubbed in.
The government cannot give anything to a person it has not first taken from someone else.

I highly recommend Continental Road Attack 3. (I took my stock Dunflops off at 1500 miles, with plenty of tread left,  they were such crap).
With the RA3 you can actually feel them gripping the road and, so far with several thousand miles, they show no signs of wear.
They are also highly rated.

They're not cheap but you can get rebates. I'm definitely buying them again.

I'm well familiar with the Bridgestone Battlax series from the bt 020 through the T30 EVO. I used them exclusively for two decades. A great bang for the buck. While those tires wore well and never put a foot wrong, they were numb feeling but I was used to them and trusted their grip. The Conti RA3 are heads and shoulders above them. No comparison as far as feel is concerned and even grip.
I suppose somebody will jump in with the Michelin Road 5, which, by reviews, is also a good tire, but I'm so happy with the RA3 I'd be afraid to switch.

I was a Bridgstone man for years, the last I had was the T31 on my old zzr600. Then tried Pirelli Angel GT2 as they were on offer to replace the standard Dunlops on the z900 at 2400 miles. The dunlops were not worn out but were shocking in the wet. The Pirellis  lasted 10,000 miles, really good, then moved to the Metzeler Roadtec se01, even better. I'm an all year commuter, track days, IAM observing, foreign tours and these Metzelers are very good. 3000 miles in and no discernable wear. Bridgstones are ok but found the front would wear the shoulders away by 5000 miles & the grip in cold weather also dropped off .

Yep, imho getting rid of the stock tyres is one of the best mods an owner can do. Good tyres will give you a lot more road feel, grip, and confidence on the bike.
