Spotlight mounting. How to?
on: November 03, 2021, 02:25:51 AM
Hi Guys and Gals,

I have a set of spotlights and I also have a light bar. The electrics (for me) is easy but the physical mounting is the problem I have so looking for ideas of mounting a pair of spots and / or a light bar. I was thinking of mounting the light bar under the headlight with brackets running from the fork clamp bolts. Spot light I don't know where to mount.

These are the pair of spot lights I have

First observation with the light bar is to watch out for fender clearance on full fork compression.

Fork clamps perhaps? Something like these?

You could probably find tidier options available if you look harder than I did.

I seem to recall someone using longer bolts with tube spacers in place of the front fender mountings bolts but I can't remember who or when.
Tighten it 'til it strips then back it off half a turn.

Yes I had thought about that and was going to check it out

Had a search on ebay and come up with these

I like this one because it small and neat however my lights are quite heavy and I feel no matter how tight you make the mounting bolt with road vibration the mounts may rotate and therefore the lights will be uselessly pointing at the ground

I did on my 17 z9

But i have crash bars so i mounted on them directly which is what i believe most ppl do.

Ive seen others use the fork clamp on their bikes (not z9) n works well enough for them...

Looks wise is errmm.... Debatable hahahaha

Maybe u could fabricate a mounting bar for the spotlights....where the bar is bolted onto the same mount for the horn..

Thanks for the response I'm doing a dusk to dawn ride in a couple of months, the stock lights are no-where good enough for country riding at night, so I really don't give a damn about the looks. In fact I will be able to remove them by undoing 2 bolts and unplugging 2 leads if I choose to.
I'll have a look at the horn mount.

Get a set of these, they work great , give the bike a more 'solid' look and can fit lights to them
