Anyone have any recommendations for corrosion protection? I live about two miles from the ocean and want to be proactive about it. Any negatives to just spraying unpainted metal with WD-40 once a week?

In the UK we have damp salt on the roads for several months in the winter.  I've found ACF-50 gives good protection that last for months after one application.  It does attract dirt, though.  Other similar products are available, but this seems to be the most common.

Chain lube is another thing to consider if you start to see any corrosion.  Most of the time i use Wurth Synthetic Dry Lube, but when there's a lot of salt about I change to a Renthal product which is a sort of stringy oil (a bit like STP petrol treatment, if you remember that?).  Here I buy it from cycle shops, rather than motorcycle dealers.

Another vote for ACF50. Used to use my Z for year round commuting in the UK. With the exception of a couple of small areas that I missed, it did it’s job brilliantly. Each year I gave the bike a proper coat before winter and then hosed it off offer each use. Always keep a rag soaked in the stuff in the garage, so I’d give the bike a proper wash every few weeks during winter and once dry, I’d give the bike a wipe over with the soaked rag. Then in spring, a deep clean and proper coat of the stuff again.

Ready for a coat of ACF.

    Winter setup.

Very thorough Robz900 thank you. This is my first brand new bike (had a 2011 ninja 650r for a year and a half) so really want to establish a good maintenance routine

The Bennetts motorcycle forum did one of the most comprehensive comparisons of rust prevention products,
    The link is here..............
(I've used ACF 50 in the past but have now gone onto XCP products for the UK winter. I ride every day, all year round)
    Hope this helps

The XCP is also good, but I found it to be more sticky than ACF so dirt stuck to it more. I know it’s protecting what’s underneath, but just didn’t like that about it. Still a good product though.
