      Manufacturing tolerance
      The rider's weight
      Both of the above
.  Yep for sure. I actually turned mine back around because one pushed through hole because it’s too thin when reversed. I may get a extra set and just take a little off the top thicker side and see how that works?

Mine is oem tall seat but…. I scooped out some hard oem foam and glued in a softer foam so it’s actually comfortable now but still pushes you towards tank. May redo again and try to level out a bit.

quick question.. since we are talking about seats. Is there any major difference in the 17-19 and 20+ seats. I see them being sold as two different seats but i am wandering if the change is minor and if i can make the 21 seat work on an 18 z900?

My understanding is that Kawasaki started using the more "plush" seat as stock and offer the "low profile" seat that came stock on the previous year models as an option. There could be be changes to the seat as the part numbers for the different years are not the same. The '17 to '19 show part number as 99994-1336 and the 20+ models have 99994-1348. I have no idea whether these are actually different seats or just the part number has been changed to reflect the updated models. All it would take would be a different cover material or different foam to result in a new part number.

I made the adjustment a few kms ago but I'm not sure if it's more confortable.

I have a 400 km route planned soon and I don't know what position to set it to.

You can always change it mid journey if you don't like it.

    I prefer it "adjusted".

Well, as I am 6-2 tall, I went more extreme.  Raised the front of the seat so it does not hook under the cross member but sits above it.  Made a riser block, no drilling required.  I like it so much that I made a filler piece to close the resulting gap.

The difference this made was brilliant! The pain I had before has gone, I find the bike so comfortable now.

Saved me Ł300 in a custom seat, because that was the route I was going down.

    Thank you!
