    Inner Guide Duct Removal?

Is the inner Guide Duct functional (truly required) on the Z900?  I have attached two images of this part, one from the part manual and the second of the actual part in its real place on the right side after removing the outer (painted part).  The end of the duct is tapered and exits in the area behind the motor, up around the airbox and fuel lines.

The left side does not have this part due to the voltage regulator being mounted instead of the duct guide.

I'm wanting to use this area to fabricate a bracket to mount some electronics.  I have attached an image of the prototype bracket and module mounted to the duct mounting location  in case anyone is curious.

How detrimental will removing this duct be on the Z900?
