    O2 sensor specific question.....
    on: Sep 23, 2022, 01.58 pm
    Sep 23, 2022, 01.58 pm
Does someone knows for fact if O2 sensor is "active" or "inactive" when riding in 1st gear?

Does ECU use O2 sensor informations through all gears (1-6) and only RPMs are relevant or it could be that ECU ignores O2 sensor when riding in 1st gear?

Im having problem between 2000-3000 RPMS (hesitation, jerking, loss of Power) when bike is warm through all gears (2nd most prominent) EXCEPT in 1st gear - no problem at all when in 1st gear in those RPM range.

Idle is perfect, no problem there. New Spark plugs, air filter, cleaned (and synced) throttle bodies.

52.000kms, O2 sensor is thermally stressed, so i suspect it could be "worn" and out of specs, but not enough for Check Engine Light.

    No service codes....

    Tnx

Fitting an O2 eliminator would prove or disprove your theory.

But, what with check engine light? My Z is 2020 model (EU version, same as UK for that matter).Does it work on that model?

Also, i have OEM headers with catalytic converter, would not using O2 sensor clogged it eventually, i ride 20.000km per season and rather invest in new O2 sensor if necessary?

For test - sure, but, would like more to have definitive answer if O2 sensor is used when riding in 1st gear. If yes - its not fault O2 sensor.

     You probably know all this:

Normally when the bike is running in the closed loop portion of the map (sub 5000 revs and low throttle openings) the O2 sensor will send signals to the ECU to lean out the fuelling to achieve the emission test standard.
Above 5000 revs and at wider throttle openings the bike is running open loop. i.e. no o2 sensor feedback.
With o2 eliminator installed the bike will run on the fixed map from the ECU and no leaning out will take place which is exactly what you suspect is currently happening in first gear.
According to the description is supposed to prevent CEL occurring.
As regards the cat getting blocked I doubt it. Our o2 sensor is a narrow band type so can only make small adjustments so the default fuelling will still be the lean side low down and nothing is any different than stock in the upper ranges. Also AIS is still functioning.

Just an idea to try it.  :821:

I had a 2013 Honda  CB1100 a few years ago and it surged at certain RPM in any gear with steady throttle. It drove me nuts. I finally couldn't take it anymore and I bought an O2 eliminator from ebay, installed it in about five minutes and my surging magically disappeared! They work and don't throw a code.

After intense google search, did not found that 1st gear is excluded from O2 sensor when it comes to controlling fuel mixture at low RPMs. Not only for Z900, but generally.

That silky smooth 1st gear throughout all revs is confusing, i almost wants it to be problematic as other gears so detection of the problem would be easier.

Hello, I had this problem with my Z900 FULL 2022 Europen, kawasaki checked the TPS sensor of the injection rail, then fixed it (badly fixed), the jerk problem was moved to 5000 Rpm, and the bike no longer exceeded 200 km/h in 6th gear, I changed dealers, they replaced the injection rail for me under warranty, and the problem returned between 3000 and 4000 rpm , I did a lot of research and it is therefore the closed loop that is the problem because it is very poor in gasoline, I bought a power commander 6 and an autotune to control the afr and replace the o2 of origin and I can't find an O2 eliminator compatible with our models to date, I have a Chinese diagnostic tool and torque.app with which I erase the default code when I don't want to see an engine light when I'm driving, but I have to do it after each start, today the bike is more pleasant and the jerk problem has almost disappeared. res the revision of the 1000km, I just solved it
    it has 9000 km
    good luck

Rapid Bike Easy seems to be the Answer, but i did not tried it. It can adjust in few steps O2 sensor signal to give different (false) reading to the ECU which then adjust mixture.

Regarding 02 disable bung I recieved with Autotune AT-200

2 resistors needed, near enough is usually good enough. Looking at there size they look like 1/4watt resistors.

    a) 326ohm
    b) 46.5Kohm

looking from the male (bung) plug connector face that you plug into the harness with locking clip on the top.
