If it starts while priming then your timing is good.
Something happens once primed or when the ignition is turned on and takes as long to happen as the priming sequence. Something with the throttle plates?
Has your ecu ever been flashed? (I can’t remember if you discussed this).

    Just spit-balling here…

It’s almost as if, after priming, there is no fuel pressure to the injectors or there is fuel pressure but the ecu is not asking them to spray. Or the spark plugs aren’t firing. The problem is definitely electronic in nature.

Have you confirmed spark AFTER the initial priming sequence has ended?
To do this you would have to prime/start the engine then with the key still in the "on" position (so as not to initiate another priming sequence), pull a plug and crank the engine to verify you still have spark.
If you try this you must stuff a rag over the spark plug hole because if there is spark and gas vapor, an explosion could result.

From what I understand, you do need an adapter. Unfortunately. But the scanner tells you a lot and can clear codes.
