Learning how to navigate and post on this forum so I can maybe be of help to others and learn more about the Z9. I’ve already replied to a post by user echo948 regarding sloppy gear changes/false neutrals. Old post so I didn’t get a reply but still found some useful information I.e lowering shift lever for easier changes.
Anyway, in that post I said I had ordered a part from a company called Racetorx who engineer a part called and it is a bit of a mouthful “shift shaft support”.
Part arrived today so I got to work installing it.
It turns out I didn’t actually have to remove the sprocket cover entirely. However I’m glad I did because my sprocket and chain were covered in an unholy amount of gunk. Honestly, it didn’t look this clean when I removed it. A liberal amount of chain cleaner and prodding with the straight end of a chain cleaning brush and things were looking a lot better.
If you do decide to take it off there’s 4 bolts in total, I don’t know what size they are but two are longer so be sure to remember where they go.

The Racetorx part is essentially a billet part which eliminates lateral free play between the shift control arm/rod and the shift shaft. There is a bearing mechanism inside that needs to be greased (sachet of grease is provided) you will need to replace the two lower bolts with the ones provided.
If you decide to do this mod or just take your sprocket cover off for a thorough clean/sprocket change then remember not to over torque the bolts which is very easily done. I used loctite and torqued to the recommended 8.7nm.
Shifting does feel a lot firmer and gear engagement is definitely more positive. Can’t say much about false neutrals as I haven’t rode the bike enough times since install.
