Looking to get some new tires on my Z900. What’re your favorite tires to put on a Z900?

It may depend on your riding style and conditions.  For me I went with Michelin Road 5 Tires and couldn't be happier.  I don't track, street race and tend to ride in clear weather 3 seasons out of the year (based on temperature and weather, snow etc.).  When I do ride its 80% back roads, cruising and 20% in and out of traffic.   The Road 5's are GREAT but come at a premium - they are expensive compared to other brands.  I paid around $350 for both tires.

Michelin has Road 6 tires now and I would go for those if I needed to but the Road 5's I bought are going to easily last a second season of riding and maybe a third. And that's a good thing! Just my 2 cents.

I attached an image of the spreadsheet I did on tires last year.  Maybe it will give you some ideas or help.  Good luck.  :821:

Really want to get a set of Road 5 or 6's for mine since I have heard nothing but good things, but seems their prices have increased a bit. Almost $500 for a pair and that's before having them installed.

That tire topic keeps repeating evevery season, just try use search on the forum

You will read a plenty of opinions, the only right, is based on your research + own riding habbits and climate you live.

E.g. ive tried Michelin Road 5, for me - no go. I felt no confidence in the corners. Tyre would slip

Now i have Metzelers RR 9s and these seems work ok for me

Yeah I’ve heard great things about the road 5. And others say they didn’t feel much confidence. Might try out a set of the Bridgestone s22.

I get this.   I really do. But some topics are worth revisiting IMO.  Yes, search is your friend, but new tires come out, public opinion changes etc. so rehashing old topics and searching are a good thing.

This is why the questions are great.  You must be a more skilled rider than I or have a lot more mileage than me on the Z or both.  I went from the OEM Dunlop's to the ROAD 5.   They feel like I am glued to the road, even on some light gravel and while turning.  I got caught in a light rain/ drizzle once and I honestly forgot the road was slick.  The OEM tires would frequently remind me of their limits the prior time I was in the same riding conditions.   I try not to be too much of a fan boy (if it works, us it) but I will definably look into the Metzelers the next go around for tires.  Thanks for sharing that experience.

    Dunlop Q3+

I dont have to worry about rain much in SoCal, yeah they wear out quicker but they gave a lot more confidence than the two sets of road 5s I went through

Thanks! I’ll do some research on them. How many miles do you get on the front and rear with the q3’s?

I don't know about "best" but I know what I'm going to buy after I wear out my Dunlops.    I'm going to buy the inexpensive Conti Sport Attacks.    The old version, not the latest and greatest.    They are like $200 for the front/rear shipped to my house.    I don't expect them to last as long as a more street-focused tire but at $200/set so I don't really care.    I'd rather refresh more frequently than ride a tire down to the nub anyway.    I also invested in the tools to mount/balance my own tires so that isn't a consideration in my purchasing calculations.   If I had to take them to the shop to mount/balance I might be looking for a longer-wearing compound.
