Took the forks off and dropped them into my mechanic to fit the Ohlins cartridges

Going to fit the rear shock as well

looks like the ohlins PRCS remote preload shock , I have a couple of them on 2 of my Ducatis  and I have some ohlins internals in the Monster 750 forks with the ohlins shock on rear   and on the S4 Monster i have Ktech valves and springs in forks  with Ohlins shock on rear ,, the ohlins shocks need servicing every few years oil and gas but totally rebuildable   and the improvement in handling , compliance and comfort is  great ,,, I was lucky got my PRCS 46 both at half price .

I am happy with the Z900 standard  suspension so far as I have  played with the settings ,,
on another of my Ducatis I have superb M Factory Shock  only £350  and almost as good as Ohlins , also fitted some MFactory Twin shocks to a HD for my mate  fully adjustable he is over the moon with the quality and  ride and full adjustability .

I musty have been unlucky with my M-Shock. Read lots of glowing reports about them before purchasing but it was truly awful on my Z900.
Got a full refund and put it towards a K-Tech Razor R which renewed my faith in aftermarket suspension.

    Looked nice. :006:

Mike Caton owner of M shock is a great guy to deal with, glad you got a refund , i like m Shock and ohlins, obviosly depending on how much I want to spend on a particular project ,  tried hyperpro but was not Impressed , heard good things about Nitron and Maxton , Had K tech fork internals  but not tried their shocks .

What was your issue with th M Shock on your Z900

It blew through the travel far too easily and the rebound damping at factory settings would try to hold it down. Eventually it would jack down over repeated bumps. I had to adjust it to close to the minimum number of (48?) clicks to prevent jacking down. Obviously that didn't stop it bottoming out. As well as being under sprung I suspect the fixed ratio of rebound/compression damping was off. Not enough compression and far to much rebound. That's a guess though.
What really killed my love was the way the ride quality and control would diminish after 30 mins or so of riding. It was verging on dangerous to be honest.
I emailed the supplier with my issues. I was quite willing to work with M-Factory to get it sorted out but they just sent me a return shipping label, back to France, and a (eventually) a refund.

Had a Maxton single leg cartridge/spring conversion too. Very good. Recommended on a VFM basis. I expect their double leg cartridge conversions would be pretty amazing.

Well that was a waste of time and money.  :013: My mechanic had a look at the forks and told me the screw to remove the fork legs from the stanchions was almost impossible to remove without damage, after doing a search in here it seems I should have read up on the process before buying the cartridges. Anyone want to buy new Ohlins cartridges?

So I started to replace the fork legs and found this, the bloody bike only has 10,000 kms and is always garaged!

I cleaned up the headers while the forks were off and I had easy access to them.

Cleaned up the inside of the fork tube mounts

I put the forks, wheel, calipers and mudguard back on and took it for a ride down the driveway just to make sure brakes worked and the ABS light went off. All good

Is your "mechanic" a suspension specialist?
Can the folk you bought the cartridges from install them if you send the legs?

No, however he is a very experienced all round mechanic who has worked on, ridden and raced pretty much everything and he has the tools to do the job and I trust him. Besides this forum confirmed what he told me.

www.motostorm.it is where I bought the Ohlins cartridges. Apart from the expense of shipping a fork leg to Italy and back I doubt they could fit it.

Ah, I see. Getting parts and labour from different sources can be a sh^t show.

I wasn't aware there was an issue removing the cartridge.
