Hey everyone, first maintenance post and new here. I have no prior experience working on my own bikes and limited mechanical experience in general, but I am teachable and very motivated to learn.
I've got a 2019 Z900 ABS, initially bought used with low mileage. Bike was stolen after 3 months (and luckily recovered the same day). Totally my fault, learned my lesson. Anyways, thief destroyed the ignition and clearly laid down the bike once or twice. Don't have the original key anymore, but will not be needing a new trunk lock or a new tank lock (halo fuel cover, can pick and make the trunk key). Bike's been in my Uncle's backyard for a year with a cover on it and now it's back at my apartment (and it is SECURED).
Plan now is to replace the ignition switch assy, replace the battery, replace this rusted ass chain, change the fluids, check alignment, replace all of the fairings. I'll need to research and learn as I go, of course, but I'm looking forward to it. Question is, can anyone help point out what else I should be checking/replacing/etc to ensure that this bike is safe to ride once I can get it started up again? I don't want to miss something critical or do anything unsafe.
Will post pics on request when the sun is up. Thanks in advance for reading the new guy's post. All feedback or recommendation is welcome, even if it's a little critical.
