Need to block the AIS. Either a plug in the hose or block off plates under the airbox.

It is because of fresh air that is "pumped" into exhaust for emission purposes, and to prevent catalytic converter clogging and burning (usually only below 3500-4000rpm). It is normal.

If you dont have catalytic converter, you could block AIS as described above.

I bought a used Z with Firetong exhaust and it was running so fat, popping on downshift blips, overrun, etc. Super obnoxious.

So I made some block off plates out ABS and took the whole AIS system out and sealed the airbox off.

It helps a lot with the issue no matter how you get it done.

I found the pops annoying so plugged the AIS pipe from the airbox. Then I missed the pops so I installed a sprinker valve inline with the AIS pipe so I can AIS on/off/half on to my hearts desire. Made a thread about it couple of weeks ago in the modifications section.

I hope you don't have catalytic converter, because, AIS is needed for it or else you will have clogged/burned catalytic converter.
