Ventura rack - l bracket mounting

    Hi there,

Has anyone installed the Ventura L-brackets?  Did you need to drill / modify the underseat to access the mount points? (I presume yes?).  Just wondering what is required in terms of disassembly and whether any templates are supplied for aligned drilling if required.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

Very interested in knowing this also, as we do a fair bit of traveling.

Yes you do have to drill through the underseat plastic.  You have to remove both seats then rear plastic  (4 bolts and 2 screws then lift up and back to release clips).  Remove the toolkit.  Ventura provide a paper template to fit into the parcel tray to show you where to drill the 2 13mm holes required.  'll take photos and write it all up.  Instructions from Ventura are pretty clear.  I've used then on a few bikes now.

Ok - so install finished.  It all went pretty smoothly except for the template to drill the holes.  It could have placed them slightly further back toward the tail of the bike as there wasn't enough space between the rear L bracket mount and foot peg, so I had to file the holes deeper to line everything up.  I filled the gap so no dirt / muck can get in (its  only the tray for the toolbag anyway).  Various photos below:

    Instructions and parts:

    Tail section and removal
You have to remove the tail plastic.  This is held on by 4 allen head bolts (5mm) and 2 screws.  The way to remove is slide back toward the rear as the clips are designed to slot in toward the front. The way I fit i back on is lined up one side, then on the other side, pressed the underside plastic (quite flexible) inwards so the top plastic could slide over and tabs into the slots.

The tail section is a perfect fit for my 250 :-)

Drilling plastic undertray.  Using the template provided, mark the holes as per instructions.  I found moving the holes back 3mm was required.

Once the holes are drilled, mount the support brackets:

Keep everything loose until all bolts etc... are fitted.  Here's things reassembled:

Pretty darn clever how they made those mounting points. I'm surprised they didn't use the mounting points for the undertail light/license plate holder.

Using the tail plate mounting position would interfere with aftermarket tail tidy options I suppose... so staying well clear means you can tail tidy how you like.

    Cheers.

The rack mounts very solidly.  the bar tube diameter is quite meaty.  I think they'd carry a decent pack weight no problem.  I've had them on 2 of my other bikes and no issues.

Dave, any chance I could get the part numbers for the Ventura rack ? Iíll be ordering soon.

Did you only get the shorty bar, or the full rack ? If you have the full size rack, could I get a photo of it on the bike please,

    Cheerz Frankie
