Everyone check out my video of me racing my friend on his 2015 FZ-09! I also threw in some 0-60 clips. I hope you enjoy my friend Tylers goofy grin (in the red truck) lol.

Cool to see the two bikes against each other though I found it hard to concentrate on the two bikes racing, all I could think of was your hands. Don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to do whatever they want, but let me lay a bit of knowledge on you that I learned when I took my licence.

At 30mph, bare skin wears away at 1 inch for every 2 metres you slide. Double that and it means that at 60mph, it wears away 1 inch for every metre you slide. Now take a look at your fingers, how thick are they, about an inch? That means, if you came off at 60 with no gloves on, you’d only have to slide 1 metre and your fingers are gone! Do yourself a favour and put some proper bike gloves on. As my instructor said to me, “it may be a bit uncomfortable being hot and sweaty under your gear, but you can always have a shower when you get home. You can’t wash off gravel rash!”

As I said, entirely up to you, but perhaps a little bit of perspective on how vulnerable you are without riding gear will change your mind.

Hey Adam can you show me the bar end mirror setup you got on there?  It looks like you were able to keep the factory bar ends?

You can use a lathe to turn out a groove in the factory bar ends. That gives you a space to mount the mirrors.

Yeah I definitely should have had my gloves on. As for my bar ends, I just unscrewed the bolt to where there was enough room to fit the mirror clamp and after tightening the clamp I tightened the bolt back down.

Always find it annoying to wear too much gear, that's why I hate cold weather riding,off-road I expect to take a spill now and then but when on road thought never crosses my mind about going down. I wear half shell, shirt, pants, and sneakers and catch a bunch of crap from others but at least I'm comfortable and feel as I'm not obstructing my view or feel/ senses with a bunch of crap on. I may change my mind though since this is by far my fastest bike in which I seem to have a hard time not reaching triple digits each time I ride.

From experience I can tell you that your opinion will change if/when you have a spill without full gear on. Only had to do it once when I was young enough and stupid enough to not wear the correct riding gear. Not a mistake I’ll make twice! You think you’re uncomfortable in riding gear? Wait til you’re covered in gravel rash with broken bones etc! If you’re finding that your gear obstructs your vision or movement, you’re wearing the wrong gear. Don’t know about in the states but here in the UK we’ve got a saying - “dress for the slide not for the ride”. But as I said in my previous post, everyone has the right to choose what they do or don’t wear, just offering advice based on first hand knowledge.

A bar end mirror can be installed without any modification of the stock bar end weight - as mentioned above.
