I would love to own a US motorcycle but all I can get is Harley. There's been a few nice startups but they couldn't compete. One such bike was Motus. I met the owner and told him I'd love to buy one but couldn't justify $30+ grand. I told him I'd willingly pay sub $20k. He told me that because he has to buy all his systems (electronics, brakes, wheels, etc.) from manufacturers, instead of making them himself, he could not get the price down.

I used to work for an American owned (Detroit) company who manufactured purpose made made machine tools for the automotive industry. One of the many anecdotes of the mother company was " flippin burgers on Friday operating a Transfer-matic on Monday".
 The whole point being that precision tasks where almost completely de-skilled.
 The automotive industry has been working on that basis since the Model T was first conceived.
 The only thing that has really changed with Kawasaki's Lincoln operation is the shift patterns becoming mum friendly.

I'm completely puzzled by the OP's angle for this post.

In another forum post they said "I just have a problem giving money to countries that practice slave labor"... and yet they are mocking a US-based manufacturing company for providing employment and sustainable working conditions for their staff?

No, I'm questioning the skills of people hired simply for the pay scale or working hours as opposed to someone who aspires to do that specific job.
I've worked large construction my whole life and can spot a qualified worker a mile away. I'm talking the difference between someone who actually went to a trade school to learn or had been doing that trade for a long time as opposed to somebody hired because the knew somebody or someone in their family owned the company and just gave them a job. We've all worked with relatives of the owner.

I'm sure some of these people will be excellent and some won't cut it but the number one consideration for choosing a job shouldn't be the work schedule. I'm glad the company made adjustments for them and I hope they keep their promises.
